Leslie Gaworecki

Leslie Gaworecki is a photographer turned abstract artist living and working in Houston, Texas.  After moving often and living abroad for much of her youth, she received a BFA in photography from The Ohio State University and found her way back to Texas.  Leslie spent the next decade photographing people and events across the country and teaching herself to paint.  Her most recent work explores longing for place - places from the past, places called home, unseen places of the future.  Mostly acrylic with some mixed media, Leslie’s painting practice is driven by color and the surprises that happen when she releases expectation. Her work is collected internationally and has been displayed and purchased for public spaces, most recently She was commissioned to create new work for Houston’s Intercontinental Airport.  Leslie is co-creator of “Color:Story”, a biennial collaborative art and poetry exhibition that brings together artists of both disciplines from Houston and around the world.  Leslie lives with her husband and four young sons who inspire her mark-making and her tendency toward whimsy.
